- Reviewed in the United States on April 9, 2012As others have stated here, this is a terrific book and at just over $30 (with free shipping) at Amazon, a great bargain too. I have long been a fan of Captain America. As a kid in the late 1960's through the mid 1970's, I avidly read the comics. Unfortunately, none of the movies or tv shows from the 1980's, 1990's or early 2000's did much for me. It was not until the recent movie (subject of this book) that anything on screen did the story justice.
Although I suspected the quality of the book was good, it wasn't until I viewed a video review that I could really see the layout and scope of the book. As an avid reader, scale model builder and Captain America fan, I knew the book was worth the price. After receiving the book, I found out that it was even better than I imagined. The choice of subjects, photographs and art work is top rate. If you appreciate movie story boards and pre-production artwork, then this book is for you. If you enjoyed the movie, then this book is for you. If you are an adult fan of Captain America (and comics don't interest you), then this book is for you. If you like to build scale models with a science fiction/military theme, then this book is for you. I highly recommend it.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 22, 2011The media could not be loaded.
The hardcover book comes with a slipcase of Captain America's iconic shield. It's a simple and striking design. On the back is the Hydra logo. When you pull out the book, you see a beautiful wall illustration with Captain America in World War II costume. Nice.
The 240 pages are packed with concept art on characters, environment, weapons and war machines. There are minimal film stills, a couple of old Captain America comic panels for the history, storyboards and the movie posters.
The character designs are wonderful. There's Captain America in various combat uniforms, with variations of leather jackets, straps and belts, helmets, new or war torn. And then there's the actual redesigned Captain America costumes, again in many variations. All look terrific.
The other characters included are Red Skull (Johann Schmidt), Howard Stark (Tony Starks dad), Peggy Carter (love interest), Howling Commandos (Captain America's field team) and a couple of other miscellaneous characters. Of particular mention would be the Hydra troopers. There are enough designs to make it look like a military fashion show.
The environment designs are a mixture of digital paintings and composites. Some are blown up slightly too big and look a bit blurry. Overall, they still look nice. Most of the set designs are quite dark in mood.
There's a huge section on weaponry. The various prototypes shields made by Howard Stark are interesting - one has a machine gun built in! Hydra weaponry is a huge part of this section. There are designs for huge tanks, mini tanks, Schmidt's Coupe, bombers, motorcycles, trains and submarines. The designs look sophisticated and classic at the same time. The Coupe's 3D model is very beautiful.
There are also accompanying artist commentary that explain the background.
This book is really packed. A highly recommended companion for the movie.

- Reviewed in the United States on July 28, 2011First, the movie is awesome. Don't miss it on the big screen. Wonderful adaption of the rich history of one of Marvel's greatest superheroes. This book is also the best book of this genre done by Marvel for its films. Every page is gorgeous, filled with photos and art, the layout and quality is incredible. A beautiful book for fans of either the film or the comic. Make sure you pick this up. I hope Marvel has published it in sufficient quantity unlike the first Iron Man book that disappeared and became ultra expensive for a while. I can't say enough about the colors and tone of this book, the richness of the photos and the content. Every page is a piece of art. Five Stars.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 27, 2011As both an artist and a Captain America fan, I preordered this book as soon as Amazon.com listed it for preorder. I have to say that it's probably one of the most beautiful movie art books that I've seen. From the hard slip cover that boasts a close up of Cap's iconic shield and Hydra's logo on the back, to the many versions of costumes, props, & visuals within, this book will be certain to delight not only fans of the Captain America movie, the 40's era, but also conceptual movie art fans alike. Even the heavy weight feel of the paper speaks QUALITY. For the price, this is definitely a great value and I highly recommend it! It's the center piece of my coffee table books right now! (Amazon.com needs to update their images of this book. The ONLY conceptual art piece shown right now is 1 of MANY fantastic pieces of art contained within.)
- Reviewed in the United States on October 3, 2014To be perfectly honest, I bought this book whilst inebriated and can't think of a reason why I own it. I liked the movie and thumbed through this book a few times and it's well done, but I'm not sure what compelled me to get it aside from one too many Heinekens and boredom. Makes a great gift, even when you've sobered up.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 13, 2013I bought this book for my 4 year old daughter, b/c she's probably the biggest [little girl] fan of Captain America. The book's pages are thick, large, clear and just all around top notch. It worked out well for her b/c it's mostly illustrations, with desciptions that I could read to her while she gazed at the pictures for hours on end. The illustrations are very 'retro' as well, so if you appreciate Ameican History, you'll like this book as well. Well worth the price.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good movie, good book
The book quality in paper and slip case is perfect for the price and its content is plentyful and not just filled with cheap movie-stills unlike some other dissapointments out there.
What it has:
- lots of character sketches
- war posters and propaganda
- a few movie stills
- environment paintings
- a few technological concepts of trains, motorcycles and tanks in the last part of the book
What you shouldnt expect:
- the movie is character centric so dont expect the book to be different
- although technology plays a part in the movie, it is not its main focus and the book treats it as such (keeps the material light and to the point)
The book delivers as well as the movie did and for all intents and purposes its a good addition to anyone who seriously collects art books, not to mention its actually worth its price unlike others.

5.0 out of 5 stars Libri della Marvel

5.0 out of 5 stars Captain America: The Art of Captain America - The First Avenger.
These Marvel volumes published to accompany the series of major superhero films are characterised by high production values and this one is no exception to that rule.
A beautifully presented hardback book with a solidly made slipcase, it is printed on high quality glossy paper and is in full-colour throughout; the contents cover all aspects of the design of the film – costumes, vehicles, concept art for sets, story-boards, etc., with stills from the film and reference to the comics/graphic novels on which the character is based.
A fine companion to the film and an exemplary presentation of the design art that went into it`s making.

5.0 out of 5 stars WOW, was für ein tolles Teil!
Kaufempfehlung!
