I have the 2nd edition of this book but this has historically been the gold standard for 14er guide books. Generally good descriptions and maps. More photos of important points on routes would be useful but perhaps these have been added in the latest edition. I usually supplement with researching a few websites with route descriptions but this is the book to leave in your glove compartment for when you have some random time and are driving by some 14ers. Keep in mind, there are always more routes up 14ers than what Gerry or others describe. It's important to be safe and minimize impact, but there is something to be said for finding an alternative route and as I like to call it - choosing-your-own-adventure up or down a 14er. Makes you feel more like an explorer and those who named these peaks before they had guide books telling them where to go. Just be smart and careful and never be afraid to turn back if you get stuck. Happy climbing!

Good information, he's been there. Gerry Roach has climbed all of these peaks at least once, most of them more, often taking different approaches and using different techniques. He explains it in a manner that can be easly understood by all. Novice to expert can take something away from this book. In addition to the climbs he provides a lot of peripheral information on the process and mountain environment which is interesting and often helpful. A sensible investment if you are "going walking" in the mountains. dp

This book is so useful if you're hiking mountains in Colorado that I bought a second one to replace an older copy that was falling apart. This guy has seriously hiked all of the 14'ers and verified all of the routes in the book (some mountains have 5 or 6 approaches and bonus side hikes... and yeah he did them all).

Picked this book up prior to some climbing in SW Colorado, and was glad I did. While the majority of information on these routes can be found online, it's nice to have a hard copy when you're in out of service areas. In addition to route info , there's good general safety reading and land manager contacts as well. Highly recommended.

If you plan on climbing just one 14'er or all of them, Gerry Roach will get you there safely. His entertaining and endearing writing style and amazing attention to detail separate this book from the pack of most hiking guides. I'd recommend any of his other books as well. Gerry is one of a kind- the best!

Good quality printing, nice topos, seems like the book was designed to be useful!

One complaint/comment for the publisher - what's up with the TOC? It has the regions and other chapters listed, but we all focus quite a bit on a particular peak while we are researching, shouldn't there be a page with the list of the peaks so we can leap that that section of the book quickly? Going to the index to find Bierstadt then discovering that it's not under 'B', but rather "Mt B..." is a big waste of time. Also, make x-ref the names in the index - list "Bierstadt", see Mt Bierstadt, p47 (e.g. what part of the index to go to, and the title page for Bierstadt in the book).

This book is particularly affordable for the quality of content and print quality, very impressed. Climbing guidebooks are easily 2-3x this price.

Mr Roach has produced the definitive guide to anyone wanting to hike and/or climb 14,000 ft mountains in Colorado. It is well organized and thorough providing multiple options for each peak, options to link peaks together in a single trip and includes information on some non-14er peaks. You can tell that the book was developed from lot o experience and that experience makes this text stand out among other texts with same subject matter.
