On August 10th of the year 2010 the Holy Empire of Britannia began a campaign of conquest, its sights set on Japan. Operations were completed in one month thanks to Britannia's deployment of new mobile humanoid armor vehicles dubbed Knightmare Frames. Japan's rights and identity were stripped away, the once proud nation now referred to as Area 11. Its citizens, Elevens, are forced to scratch out a living while the Britannian aristocracy lives comfortably within their settlements. Pockets of resistance appear throughout Area 11, working towards independence for Japan.
Lelouch, an exiled Imperial Prince of Britannia posing as a student, finds himself in the heart of the ongoing conflict for the island nation. Through a chance meeting with a mysterious girl named C.C., Lelouch gains his Geass, the power of the king.     Lets get this out of the way because I'm not going to focus much on the show itself but this particular release, Code Geass is fantastic and one of the very few Anime series of the last ten years I have really enjoyed. This pack with the full 25 episodes of the first series in a slim case is great value and not too hard on my increasingly limited shelf space! The picture and sound quality are solid and definitely up to par.

    The biggest problem I have with this release is the subtitles. First of all Kaze continue to force the language options on their releases. You can switch only from the title and pop up menu however if you want English with subtitles or Japanese without, tough. There is really no good reason to lock the subtitles. The subtitles themselves are white with black border which isn't the worst scheme but can sometimes be hard to read (personally I much prefer yellow on black) though this isn't that big a deal. The text encoding itself has some issues with quotation marks displaying as a random chain of characters. For reference I'm viewing on a PS3, I can't say for sure if this problem occurs on all players. It doesn't happen too often but it is pretty poor in that just watching through should have shown this problem and it's been a persistent problem across multiple Kaze releases.

    None of these things detract too much from the fantastic show, not enough for less than 5 stars. In Kaze's long history of howlers this is actually pretty good for them.

    i watch anime but i never would have guessed such an anime that would touch my soul and as code geass. This show is soo amazing that sometimes i wish i never watched it so then i can relive those moments and that feeling of shock when i watched it the first time. This show is basically about an exiled prince named lelouch who start to create a rebellion against the holy Britannian empire after recieveing the power of geass from a mysterious girl called CC or C2. The characters are phenomenal lelouch isn't your typical good guy protagonist whilst he is good at heart especially with his motivation of creating the rebellion which is to create a peaceful world for his sister nunnaly he does tend to get his hands dirty making him a realistic character. There is a huge cast of characters and most are likable. Theres a lot more to the story then what i wrote down on this paragraph so please if you are an anime fan hell if you just want to watch a an awesome TV series then this is the one to get dont second guess yourself this show is amazing and worth every penny. so what are you waiting for buy it now!!

    Well, the show itself has no flaws and is very good; however I am skeptical about the product. The box is different in both art and size from the picture shown and the company responsible for it only have 361 likes on Facebook, so I'm not sure if I bought an official product as I can't find the one I own on eBay. It also says on the back, "Licensed for private home viewing in France." So the product is a French version? Yet it only has English and Japanese audio. A little odd I must say, but it's collaborated with Manga UK so I guess it must be genuine. Quality of the audio and video is definitely Blu Ray so I can't complain. There was a visual error on my brother Blu Ray player but that didn't happen on mine. The show is good though, recommended to all. Product is just a little suspicious, but for the price I'm ok with that.

    Edit: Watched an unboxing of the blu-ray and it would appear that it was simply missing the slip case in terms of art. Not sure why it was missing the slipcase, but oh well.

    There are only a handful of animes that I would consider a true Masterpiece and Code Geass is one of them. Everything in the series just works... the main character is probably one of the coolest characters of all time and his female counterpart isnt far off the mark either...

    and Very Strong Characters and most of their developments has been handled extremely well

    An entire season for this amount of money is just a bargain
    Even if you have seen it already... you should definitely pick up this in Blu ray cos it's just so much better experience

    Absolutely fantastic anime series. I was hooked to it from the very beginning and each episode seemed to end on a cliff hanger, leaving you hungry to watch more and find out what was happening next.

    I have to say, after a hard days work, it was a lovely thing to come back to. Just sitting snuggled up on the sofa to watch what Lelouch did next. Ah! It was wonderful!

    The characters in it are relatable and loveable. You really get into it and just fall in love, hook on to their emotions and just rooting for them to succeed. There are so many twists and turns in the anime, but all in all its amazing. So wish there was more than just the two seasons, it deserves so much more. 5*s

    Do not be fooled by the stock image on amazon. The Blu-Ray box is far thinner than the one displayed. It looks to be of a high build quality and the quality of the footage itself is fantastic. 25 episodes are spanned over two discs. As this is supposed to be based from the Japanese Blu-Ray masters it could possibly have the Pizza Hut images unedited but I have not check that far yet. I bought the Anime Legends Code Geass on DVD and Blu-Ray quality aside I prefer this one.

    This was a risky buy for me because i had no idea what it was about and i just bought it because it was reccomended to me if you liked Death Note. As soon as it came through my door i read the back of the case and i knew it would be good when i read 'Perfect blend of Death Note and Fullmetal Alchemist'. This anime did not disappoint and was way better than i had expected. A must watch for any anime fan!

    Code Geass Lelouch R1 en blu-ray... Pour sûr que cette édition était très attendue par les fans de la franchise et d'animation de manière plus globale. Par où commencer pour attaquer le morceau ?

    Commençons par l'édition elle-même de prime abord.
    Question qualité d'image c'est bien du 1080p full HD. C'est fin et fluide comme jamais. Les bonus que proposent les commentaires audio de la part de seiyuu (dont Jun Fukuyama récurrent), Ichiro Okouchi ou des chargés de production de chez Sunrise sont assez sympas et donnent d'autres perspectives aux scènes. Comment l'auteur voit les choses à travers l'œuvre, comment les comédiens ont ressenti les scènes dans le doublage etc...

    La piste japonaise est en 5.1 ce qui n'est pas le cas de la piste française. Vous pouvez, bien évidemment, changer de langue au cours de l'épisode.

    Cela me permet aujourd'hui de regarder la série en japonais et en français et malgré un nombre de comédiens moins conséquent sur la version française par rapport à la version japonaise, les deux se valent et sont très classes. Je reviens sur mon avis tout fait concernant Jun Fukuyama sur Lelouch. Il est en effet très bon (je pense qu'il n'a pas volé sa récompense de "meilleur seiyû de l'année 2007/2008") et Thierry Bourdon en français l'est tout autant ! La seule différence étant dans leur façon de jouer ZERO. Là où Fukuyama décide de surjouer une grosse voix assez caricaturale directement tirée des traditions du théâtre Kabuki (ce qui correspond relativement bien avec le fait que le personnage de ZERO aime se mettre en scène de façon très théâtrale), Bourdon surjoue avec une voix très noble et impériale tout aussi caricaturale mais tout aussi appréciable (qui renvoie également à ce côté théâtral et très mis en scène mais avec un accent plus' Noblesse et royauté occidentale ce qui appuie fortement le côté "Je suis ZERO, je suis un roi").

    J'ai une préférence pour Marie Diot sur C.C par rapport à Yukana en japonais, ainsi que Frédéric Souterelle pour Charles di Britannia même si Norio Wakamoto est également excellent. Agréablement surpris par Lloyd dont la voix japonaise tenue par Tetsu Shiratori acclamé par l'équipe japonaise se voit être jouée à jeu égal par Éric Chevalier qui joue avec une voix similaire et un jeu tout aussi classe et délibéré.

    Ce qui est amusant avec les commentaires audio est d'apprendre que le casting japonais pour les voix de la série n'a été fait que pour Lelouch, Suzaku et C.C. Le reste du casting à été décidé selon les auditions de ces 3 personnages et les comédiens non-retenus ont été redirigés sur d'autres rôles comme c'est le cas notamment avec Ken Narita qui a été reconduit pour jouer Jeremiah alors qu'il auditionnait pour Lelouch. Jeremiah qui est également très bien joué par Philippe Roullier dans la version française.

    Bref, les deux pistes sont vraiment très classes avec une mention spéciale à l'adaptation des dialogues en français (on sent le travail d'adaptation pour donner vie aux dialogues et pas seulement la simple transcription de la ligne de dialogue traduite bêtement), on ne peut que saluer le travail de la direction artistique menée par Bruno Meyere qui a relevé un sacré défi.

    Le reste de ce coffret consiste en un livret de 144 pages contenant croquis, anecdotes du réalisateur et de l'auteur, des concessions sur la conception des mécha (et même l'inspiration du fameux slash-harken), explications sur l'univers de Code Geass qui se veut relativement realiste tout en etant fictif, quelques points sur des moments clef de l'intrigue, ainsi qu'un petit journal de bord de Jun Fukuyama qui relate son ressenti après chaque enregistrement d'épisode.

    Quant à la série elle-même...

    Code Geass Lelouch of the Rebellion se veut être une série d'exception, d'une puissante densité scénaristique s'inscrivant dans un monde semblable au nôtre, mais dont l'histoire se veut réécrite et réinterprété pour donner naissance à un univers uchronique à la structure géopolitique complexe.

    Dès le début de la série le ton est donné, lorsque l'on nous explique qu'en 2017 une grande partie du monde est gouverné par l'Empereur Charles di Britannia dont l'empire homonyme, recouvre à lui seul l'ensemble du continent Américain (Nord et Sud ), imposant sa dominance politique, financière et militaire sur le reste du monde (Asie, Afrique, Océanie...) .

    L'Empire est actuellement en guerre avec l'Europe et la Fédération chinoise (Une partie de l'Asie du Sud est, l'Inde, et quelques pays du Moyen Orient) qu'il tente de conquérir et annexer.

    La trame géopolitique posé, l'histoire recentre son récit dans la Zone 11, anciennement appelé Japon, où les habitants privés de leur identité nationale ne sont plus que des «elevens » (en raison de la zone dans laquelle ils vivent). Les elevens vivent dans des ghettos, (le reste du pays étant colonisé par les britanniens pure souche) leur seul espoir d'en sortir étant de renoncer totalement à ce qu'ils sont et espérer devenirs des citoyens britanniens d'honneurs, tout en sachant qu'il ne seront toutefois jamais pleinement intégrés.

    Si les Japonais n'ont plus l'espoir de retrouver un jour leur patrie telle qu'ils l'ont connu, il reste néanmoins quelques factions rebelles éparses dans le pays, qui tentent à l'aide d'actions éclairs d'enrayer l'assise Britannienne.

    Lelouch Lamperouge, est un jeune étudiant brillant à l'académie Ashford (faite pour et par les Britanniens). Il est doté d'une intelligence supérieure, et gagne son argent de poche en battant de riches compatriotes britanniens aux échecs et autres jeux stratégiques auquels il excelle. Cela l'aide aussi pour s'occuper de sa jeune sœur aveugle et handicapée , Nunnally.

    Suite à un malheureux concours de circonstances, il va assister à l'échec d'un plan mené par les rebelles qui tentaient de voler une arme secrète de l'Empire et se retrouver malgré lui en fuite à leurs côtés, fuyant le bain de sang causée par l'intervention des unités « méchas » Knightmares, véritable force militaire et répressive de l'Empire.

    Dans cette fuite Lelouch retrouvera et s'opposera à son vieil ami d'enfance Suzaku Kururugi, lui qui est devenu citoyen d'honneur et soldat volontaire au sein de l'armée de Britannia .

    Il rencontrera aussi une jeune resistante idéaliste, Kallen Stadtfeld, et surtout une étrange jeune fille prénommée C.C qui afin de lui sauver la vie lui confiera, en échange d'une faveur dont il ignore la teneur, un sinistre pouvoir : Le Geass .

    A partir de cet instant Lelouch possède le pouvoir d'imposer sa volonté à une personne simplement en croisant son regard. Son premier ordre, simple et mortellement laconique, il le donnera le plus froidement du monde aux soldats qui le tenaient en joue : « MOURREZ ». Les soldats se suicideront immédiatement avec leurs propres armes.

    Conforté par son nouveau pouvoir Lelouch déclamera alors à haute voie sa vraie identité : Lelouch Vi Britannia, Onzième Prince et second prétendant au trône de l'Empire.

    Commencera alors pour lui un jeu de pouvoir, d'intrigue, d'idéaux, de mensonges et d'alliances, dans un seul but : se venger et renverser son père, l'Empereur actuel...

    Pour cela il cache sa véritable identité, et, se crée à l'aide d'un masque et d'une cape noire un personnage charismatique, sans identité, ni nationalité : Zero.

    Il s'alliera alors avec les cellules de résistance en place au Japon, fondera rapidement une armée révolutionnaire sous le nom de l'Ordre des Chevaliers noirs et entamera des actions terroristes de grandes ampleurs.

    Cette première saison est donc celle de la rébellion, celle où un peuple va se découvrir un héros, une raison de reprendre le combat contre l'oppression des innocents, une saison où vont apparaitre nombre de personnages et tout autant de questions.

    Si Lelouch reste un jeune homme plutôt discret, son seul but est de protéger et prendre soin de sa jeune sœur, son alter-ego Zéro est un leader redoutable. Prêt à tout les sacrifices, à toutes les trahisons pour arriver à ses fins. Faire et défaire les alliances, se jouer des sentiments de chacun, en arriver aux mêmes extrémités que ses ennemis, et ainsi tuer quiconque s'oppose à son désir et user de son « GEASS », quitte à en perdre le contrôle un jour, aussi bien sur ses ennemis que ses amis, la fin justifiant les moyens. Si Lelouch hésite, Zero lui agit...

    La trame se veut multiple, comment renverser l'Empire, savoir pourquoi Lelouch était caché sous une fausse identité dans la zone 11 ? Qui est C.C., la jeune fille qui lui a fait don du Geass ? D'où provient ce mystérieux pouvoir ?

    Tout ici n'est prétexte qu'à suivre une partie d'échec où Zero est le roi noir et L'empereur le roi blanc, et où les alliés ne sont, en définitive, que des pions. Cela même si certaines pièces tenteront de s'affranchir de leur conditions, tel l'ami d'enfance du héros Suzaku Kururugi, qui gravira les échelons de l'armée britannienne afin d'essayer de changer les choses de l'intérieur, mais qui sera aussi victime du Geass de Lelouch, , entrainant par la suite nombre de tragédie. A terme il sera le plus farouche opposant à Zéro .

    Sans vous spoiler plus en avant cette saison 1 de Code Geass Lelouch of the Rebellion je peux juste vous dire que rien ici n'arrive ni ne s'achève comme vous pourriez l'imaginez !

    Vraiment content de cette acquisition même si 80 euros d'un coup ça peut faire mal, il faut relativiser en se disant bien qu'il s'agit d'une saison entière et en blu-ray et qu'au Japon ils paient 600 euros pour le Round 1 et le Round 2.

    Als mir das erste mal dieser Anime empfohlen wurde war ich sehr skeptisch.
    An sich bin ich nämlich gar kein Fan von Mecha Animes. Aber am Ende wurde ich doch dazu überredet und haben ihn mir ausgeliehen.
    Mittlerweile kann mit ziemlicher Sicherheit sagen das ich noch nie etwas weniger bereut habe als ihn mir auszuleihen, ihn anzuschauen und im Anschluss dann zu kaufen.

    Die Grundstory ist dabei schnell zusammen gefasst und klingt an sich wie jeder x beliebige Shounen.
    Ein Jugendlicher bekommt auf mysteriöse Weise eine Superkraft und muss gegen Gegner mit der selben Kraft antreten.
    Aber die Art wie es hier umgesetzt ist ist einfach unglaublich.

    Der Anime beginnt damit das die Hintergrundgeschichte erklärt wird.
    Das brittanische Reich hat mithilfe einer neuen Waffengattung, den Knightmares, einen Großteil der Welt unter seine Kontrolle gebracht. Darunter auch Japan das in Area 11 umbenannt wurde.
    Die Japaner wurden ebenfalls zu 11's umbenannt und müssen mit der ständigen Demütigung durch die Besatzer leben.
    Doch unter ihnen regt sich Widerstand da einige ehemalige Japaner sich nicht länger unterdrücken lassen wollen und sich mit Überfällen und Terrorismus gegen die Besatzer wehren.
    Der Hauptcharakter Lelouch wird dabei in diesen Konflikt mit hinein gerissen als er zur falschen Zeit am falschen Ort ist und durch ein geheimnisvolles Mädchen eine ebenso geheimnisvolle Kraft erhält, das Geass. Eine Kraft die es ihm erlaubt jeder Person, mit der er direkten Augenkontakt hat, einen Befehl zu erteilen die diese anschließend ausführen muss, eine Art Gedankenkontrolle.
    Er beschließt sich mit dieser Kraft an seinem Vater zu rächen der Imperator des brittanischen Reiches ist und ihn und seine Schwester verstoßen hat nachdem ihre Mutter erschossen wurde.
    Mithilfe der japanischen Untergrundkämpfer und seiner neuen Kraft versucht er sich als "Zero" gegen das brittanische Reich und seinen Vater zu erheben und als ersten Schritt Japan zu befreien.

    Diese Grundstory an sich ist nichts besonderes. Das was sie aber besonders macht ist die Kraft die sehr viele Möglichkeiten und Winkelzüge ermöglicht, sodass der Anime teilweise ein wenig an Deathnote erinnert mit all seinen psychologischen Kämpfen und plötzlichen Wendungen.
    Es macht trotz einiger Fillerfolgen (ich glaube es waren ungefähr 2 in der ersten Staffel) einen unglaublichen Spaß diesen Anime zu sehen und sich immer weider aufs neue von dem Geschehen überraschen zu lassen.
    Allerdings beinhaltet dieser Anime auch sehr viel Fanservice was mich persönlich nicht gestört hat aber doch irgendwie nicht ganz zum Rest des Animes passen will.

    Trotz dieser beiden Kritikpunkte ist der Anime einer der besten Animes die ich kenne und wer Deathnote mag sollte diesen Anime auf jeden Fall eine Chance geben!

    My grandson loves this collection. I have enjoyed watching it also. Two of the episodes were in Japanese though and could only watch with English subtitles. Not that bad, but why were all the others ok?
