Creating Circles and Ceremonies: Pagan Rituals for All Seasons and Reasons (Including Rituals for the Wheel of the Year, Handfastings, Blessings, and Consecrations) Paperback – Illustrated, July 7, 2006
Purchase options and add-ons
Creating Circles and Ceremonies is the accumulation of decades of circles, ceremonies, rituals, Mystery plays, initiations, rites of passage, and other magickal workings co-created by the Zell-Ravenhearts, today's foremost Wizard/Witch couple. For more than 30 years, Oberon and Morning Glory have traveled widely throughout the worldwide magickal community--participating in gatherings, conducting workshops, and creating rituals for groups large and small. They have met and made Magick with the leaders of many traditions: Celtic Shamanism, British Dianic, Italian Strega, Welsh Witchcraft, Faerie Trad, Ceremonial Magick, Ozark Druidry, the New Reformed Order of the Golden Dawn (NROOGD), Hinduism, Native American tribes, Greek and Egyptian mythology, and the futuristic Church of All Worlds.
Here, in one easy-to-read volume, is their collection of chants, invocations, circle-castings, quarter-callings, spells, and ceremonies. It is also a "kit" to use to assemble your own rituals, for any season or reason:
- Book I presents a basic ritual outline. Each element is followed by numerous examples which may be "plugged in" to customize your own ceremony.
- Book II gives numerous examples of actual ceremonies: Esbats (full Moons) and special occasions; Rites of Passage; Mysteries and Initiations; spells and consecrations. These can be adapted and modified as needed for any size group--from small family gatherings in your living room, to huge outdoor celebrations involving thousands of people.
- Book III provides an assortment of full rituals and ritual elements for celebrations of the eight great seasonal festivals called the Wheel of the Year. Versions of these have been commemorated for millennia in most traditional cultures of the Northern Hemisphere; and today are universal throughout the worldwide Pagan community.

About the author

Oberon Zell-Ravenheart is the author of Grimoire for the Apprentice Wizard, Companion for the Apprentice Wizard, Creting Circles & Ceremonies, A Wizard's Bestiary, and The Wizard & The Witch. A respected leader and Elder in the worldwide magickal community and an initiate in several different Traditions, he has created and participated in many Pagan and interfaith groups and projects, playing a major role in reclaiming the spiritual heritage of pre-Christian Europe. As publisher of the award-winning magazine Green Egg, Oberon was the first to adopt the words “Pagan” and “Neo-Pagan” to describe the newly emerging Nature religions of the 1960s. Since 1968, Green Egg has served as a primary catalyst and journal for the entire Pagan community. As an artist, Oberon produces altar figurines and jewelry of Gods and Goddesses. He is Founder and Primate of the Church of All Worlds, and also Founder and Headmaster of the online Grey School of Wizardry. His current project is the Academy of Arcana in Santa Cruz, CA.

- Reviewed in the United States on April 5, 2011This is a collection of the writings of Oberon Zell-Ravenheart and the people associated with him. So while the book is attributed to Oberon it is really a collective work.
While the title says "Creating Circles and Ceremonies" it really doesn't tell you how to do this. It teaches by example, and consists of many wonderful rituals and ceremonies that help fuel your own creativity. It is a republication of three volumes he has published in the past, and the various authors have had a chance to freshen up their work prior to it being republished here.
I've enjoyed the other works published by Oberon and this volume is an excellent collection of ideas and usable rituals that would be a worthy addition to any pagans library.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 27, 2017This is the consensus version for the ceremonial worship of the Wiccan religion. Copyright of this compilation is 2006. This collection is basically a textbook for the Home Tradition of The Church Of All Worlds. It also includes bits and pieces from other Traditions of the Neo-Pagan Movement. Peppered in the text are historical revelations important to the present Wiccan Establishment. There is vast ritual information here. Two mystery plays I truly enjoyed are: In Search Of The Lady and Quest Through The Shadows. Read them in the Wheel Of The Year.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 20, 2014Wow what an awesome book. I always knew Circles could be more moving. This book will take your Circles and Ceremonies to a new high. On page 25 is a ritual in sonnet. It is so beautiful and moving. If boredom has entered your magic I highly recommend this book. I also highly recommend Wizard and Witch by Oberon and Morning Glory Zell. Both books will enrich your life. Create your own beautiful and moving Circles and make your Ceremonies and Rituals tingle with excitement and electricity. Thank you to Oberon and Morning Glory for sharing this fantastic book.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 28, 2016Haven't finished reading all of this reference guide but have used other people's copies for a couple of years and wanted my own copy.
Oberon was in Australia a couple of years ago for the 21st CAW pagan Summer Festival, and I had the opportunity to hear him speak on several topics. Love his and Morning-Glory's work....she is sorely missed.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 22, 2013I couldn't put this book down when it arrived. It goes into such a wide array of topics and gives history and explains the reasons for so many of the thing I did evey day. It gives you the information, then allows the reader to choose their own path. It is going to be a well used reference for life. I only wish that there was more room on the edge of the printed text to allow me to put notes in the margins. I loved it so much I got the ebook so it would akways be with be.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 19, 2013So easy to read- I was immediately connected- I love the sample ceremonies and rites contained within- can't wait to try out the campfire ritual :-)

There are only 3 pages on funerals/memorial services, which is quite unfortunate.
There are many collected songs, chants and invocations which will make for a useful reference.
